WBSOs – Women in Big Science Organizations WBSBF aims at creating a community where public and private entities, research and industry, operating in Big Science, can interact, define actions to increase the participation and advancement of women in Big Science, and improve their societal impact. The first WBSBF events took place in 2022 receiving great interest by bringing experts and policy-makers together to exchange ideas and best practices. The Big Science Business Forum (BSBF) is perhaps the biggest example of Open InnovationandOpenScience inactionandoffersnumerousprospects for individual and multi-stakeholder actions to advance gender equality in recruitment and employment practices, in human capital development, in governance and management, and in knowledge/technology production, application and communication. Big Science projects in the past have been underexplored regarding their potential to foster inclusion and their potential high positive impact on society. WBSBF considered Big Science as an Ecosystem which offers a unique environment to advance gender equality and human capital by exploring links and synergies between different entities, by combining knowledge and practices, by putting together public and private bodies and investments. The programme focuses on successful models that promote the participation of women in the definition of innovation and technology policies, reinforce their role in decision-making processes and the value of women as knowledge holders and ultimately foster the multidisciplinary talent and diversity. Which are the successful models to support inclusion? What are the actions needed? What are the available tools to foster gender balance in practice? For the BSBF 2024 in Trieste , the WBSBF centered the activities under the theme “Big Science Projects: an opportunity for policy makers to foster inclusion and gender balance” . This theme reflected the EU’s current policy concerns about 1. socially responsible and gender sensitive public procurement practice; 2. gender mainstreaming into all policies and programmes; 3. ensuring socio-economic impact of investment in big science.
